Registration and Abstract Submission

The Biomedical Symposium for April 16-17, 2020, has been cancelled.

Special Note for INBRE Students, Lab Supervisors, Campus Coordinators, and Volunteers:

As a precautionary measure regarding COVID-19 concerns, INBRE leadership has decided to cancel the 2020 INBRE Program Meeting in conjunction with the Annual JABSOM Biomedical Sciences & Health Disparities Research Symposium (Undergraduate Poster Session) scheduled on Friday, April 17, 2020.

The Biomedical Symposium Registration database will continue to remain open at this time. For those of you who have already submitted an abstract, thank you. All other Associate and Scholar students should still plan on submitting an abstract and completing a poster file before the semester-long program ends. The deadline has been removed to allow flexibility. Constructing a poster will assist the student in satisfying the INBRE Scientific/Reflection Paper requirement, as well as the opportunity to participate in a local presentation, if available.

Volunteers, thank you again for offering your help to judge, mentor, or provide a lab tour. We will keep your contact information handy for when we are seeking volunteers for the next event!

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact inbre@hawaii.edu.

Prospective symposium attendees should register in advance. Attendees who are planning to present a poster should submit their abstract before March 15, 2020. The registration link will take you to JABSOM’s RedCap system so you can complete the form. The online registration system will be available on February 1, 2020.

Because the Program will be displayed as web pages, some text formatting and symbols may not display correctly. Some tips:

  • To include italicized text, you must use the HTML wrapper for italics. Italicized text must begin with <i> and end with </i>. Example, <i>this text would be in italics</i>.
  • To include bold text you must use the HTML wrapper for bold. Bold text must begin with <b> and end with </b>. Example, <b>this text would be bold</b>.
  • Symbols and special characters should be inserted using Microsoft Word’s Insert Symbol capability. When the final document is ready, copy and paste the Word text into the online abstract form.
  • Hawaiian diacritical elements (kahako and `okina) that rely on special fonts may not translate correctly. If possible, use the Insert Symbol capability to produce acceptable substitutions. For example, ō can be produced with the symbol Latin Small Letter O With Macron. Okina can be replaced with ` (Grave Accent).
  • The advantage of our online system is that you will be able to check the display of your abstract immediately after it is submitted. If you notice that important elements of your abstract are not displaying correctly, send a PDF of your abstract that reflects the proper appearance to biosymp@hawaii.edu (be sure to include your Poster #). We will make every effort to help you achieve the desired results.
